  1. The MainMail System Help - Select Forums

  4. This is where you decide which forums you wish to extract mail
  5. from.  When you entered MainMail the first time, you had no forums
  6. selected.  Therefore you must select the forums you wish to extract
  7. messages from if you wish to receive any messages.

  9. When you choose the [S]elect forums option, you are provided a list
  10. of the first 30 forums in the bbs.  To select a forum, simply enter
  11. its number.  If you press <enter> alone, MainMail will display the
  12. NEXT 30 forums.  If you enter a number that is not being displayed,
  13. MainMail automatically displays a new page of forums containing the
  14. number you entered.

  16. When you choose a forum by entering its number, MainMail displays
  17. a sub menu like this one:

  19.   Selected Forum: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx     Currently: Not Selected

  21.   High Message Number: xxxxx    Select [N]one, [A]ll, [Y]our,
  22.     Last Read Pointer: xxxxx    or [YA] for Yours and TO: ALL ?

  24. NOTE: Once you have selected a forum by number or by name, The
  25.       MainMail System will create a record in Gap for this forum if
  26.       one os not already there.  What this means is that from this
  27.       point forward, Gap will scan for new mail in this forum, even
  28.       though you have never accually JOINED this forum.

  30. You then choose one of the four options based on how much mail you
  31. wish to extract out of this forum.  Here are the options in detail:

  33. [N]one - Deselects this forum, removes it from your list
  34. [A]ll  - Tells MainMail to extract ALL messages
  35. [Y]our - Extracts only messages sent to YOU
  36. [YA]   - Extracts messages only to YOU and to ALL

  38. Once you have decided which of the above you wish, enter the
  39. selection followed by <enter>, and MainMail will display the sub-
  40. menu shown here:

  42.  High Message Number: xxxxx          Input New Pointer
  43.    Last Read Pointer: xxxxx          or [Enter] for no change?

  45. MainMail displays the highest message in the forum, and displays
  46. the last message you read in the forum, and asks you for a new
  47. pointer.  By default, MainMail leaves your pointer alone, and will
  48. extract all mail since then.  If you wish less mail, enter a number
  49. higher than your current pointer.  If you wish more, enter a number
  50. lower than your current pointer.  CAUTION should be used when
  51. entering a pointer.  If you have not read any messages in this
  52. forum before now, or if you haven't read any messages in a while,
  53. MainMail is likely to extract an enormous number of messages from
  54. this forum.  A good rule of thumb is to set your pointer to the
  55. high message number minus about 100.
